Were you referred to Avenue Orthodontics by another dental professional?
Although some patients seek out an orthodontist on their own, it’s very common for a patient to be referred to us by another dental professional (usually a primary care dentist). We’re honored by these referrals, because they show that these dentists trust us to provide excellent care for their patients.
Why are patients referred to a Whitestone or Bayside orthodontist?
Pediatric or family dentists often refer children to us when they reach the age at which children should be examined by an orthodontist (age 7). At this age, the American Association of Orthodontists recommends that every child be evaluated by an orthodontist, to determine whether or not the child would benefit from early orthodontic treatment (known as Phase I treatment). Dentists may also refer children when they notice problems with the child’s alignment, such as crowding.
Adult patients may be referred by their general dentists because they notice problems with the bite or if they feel that their patient can benefit from orthodontics in conjunction with an overall treatment plan. In many cases, the referral occurs because the patient expresses concern with their current smile and wants to learn more about their orthodontic options.
What will happen at your initial appointment?
When you visit our office for the first time, you’ll have a consultation with one of our two orthodontists, Dr. Abraham and Dr. Eleni. Both are highly accomplished, friendly, and approachable and will answer your orthodontic questions. They will examine your bite, discuss your treatment options, and offer their recommendations.
Of course, the choice of whether and how to proceed with treatment is entirely up to you. Your referral consultation is simply an opportunity to learn about your orthodontic options, so that you can make the best decision for yourself or your child.
