Meet Dr. Eleni Michailidis

Dr. Eleni loves the unique combination of art and science that is involved in creating beautiful smiles. She takes pride in making each patient’s orthodontic experience both pleasant and memorable.
Education
Dr. Eleni’s educational credentials are extensive. She has several degrees, all from Columbia University in the city of New York. After finishing her undergraduate degree there, she went on to complete dental school, earning her DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) degree as well as an MPH (Master of Public Health). She then completed a rigorous three-year residency program after dental school, which earned her a second master’s degree as well as a certificate in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics.
Involvement in Research
Dr. Eleni’s insatiable curiosity led her to become involved in scientific research throughout her entire education and professional training. She has been invited to present her research findings at several dental and medical conferences around the nation and has published her work in many well-respected scientific journals. Her research has covered several areas of health ranging from public health to dermatology. She discovered several genes that are responsible for abnormal tooth development and contribute to the overall scientific understanding of why and how teeth are formed. Dr. Eleni also investigated treatments for tuberculosis and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). She also searched for (and found) genetic underpinnings of a dermatological disease.
With all of this research background, Dr. Eleni is well-prepared to bring the very latest orthodontic treatments, backed solidly by research, to the creation of your perfect smile.
Honors & Awards
After seeing all of Dr. Eleni’s achievements, you are probably not surprised to learn that she has also received quite a few awards. These include:
- The Milton G. Schlessinger Award for Research and Academic Achievement
- The Percy T. Phillips Award
- Both 1st and 2nd place at the American Dental Association/Dentsply contest
- Induction into the Student Clinicians of the American Dental Association (SCADA)
In her final year of dental school alone, she received several awards:
- The Research Excellence Award
- The Divisional Excellence Award in Periodontics
- The Northeastern Society of Periodontics Award for Outstanding Achievement
- The Implantology Award and the Academy of Prosthodontics Award for Outstanding Achievement.
Dr. Eleni has also been the Vice-President of the Columbia University Orthodontic Alumni Group and is the former Medical Chair of the New York Metro Chapter of the Star Legacy Foundation.
Award-Winning Recommendation
Dr. Eleni is certainly a distinguished professional, but she is most proud of having received the most important honor of all – the recommendation of her patients. She was recently voted one of the “Favorite Docs and Healthcare Professionals” in Hudson Valley Parent Magazine. That means that her patients trust and like her, and would recommend her to others.
Personal Life
Dr. Eleni is not just an orthodontist; she is a dynamic and well-rounded woman. She is a dancer and was a member of a dance company for many years. She is also a certified kickboxing instructor and loves to exercise. She enjoys cooking, reading, traveling and spending time with her family, and loves to take advantage of the incredible resources that New York City has to offer.
