Clear Braces in Whitestone With Dr. Abraham Chahine
Modern-day Orthodontics has come a long way from the discomfort and cumbersome nature of braces from the past. Today’s selection of orthodontic treatments offers more options and versatility for the consumer. Amongst these options are a wonderful innovation known as clear braces. Many patients of Dr. Abraham Chahine and Dr. Eleni Michailidis are opting for the features and function of clear braces in Whitestone.
What are clear braces?
Clear braces are similar to traditional metal braces. Clear brackets are bonded to the surface of the teeth and wires are used to carefully adjust the position of the teeth in order to achieve a beautiful, straight smile. However, instead of the distinct metal bracket used with traditional braces, clear braces use a tooth-colored ceramic bracket that makes braces less visible.
Although commonly confused, clear braces are different from clear aligners like Invisalign. While clear braces are attached, clear aligners are removable, but do require more diligence to achieve the desired results.
Why are clear braces a good option?
Unlike traditional braces, clear braces are able to adjust a person’s teeth with more discretion. While still noticeable, clear braces are not as visible as traditional metal braces. Compared to clear aligner trays, clear braces have no removable parts that can be misplaced, nor do they require a patient to maintain a schedule for wear because they are attached in our office. For some orthodontic cases, the precision and effectiveness of braces is preferred over clear aligners. They are especially beneficial for patients seeking accelerated orthodontics.
Am I a good candidate for clear braces?
If you are in need of orthodontic treatment and would like to straighten your teeth with discretion, clear braces may be a good option for you. During your free consultation and initial exam, Dr. Abraham and Dr. Eleni can discuss your options for braces, including clear braces. They will be able to determine if clear braces are right for you and discuss any key factors during your appointment. If you are interested in accelerated orthodontics, Dr. Abraham and Dr. Eleni can provide information on this form of treatment.
What should I expect if I select clear braces for my orthodontic treatment?
Orthodontic treatment with clear braces is similar to traditional metal braces. A tool called a cheek retractor will be used to expose the teeth for treatment while maintaining a dry surface on the teeth. Teeth are then prepared to provide a good surface for the bonding procedure. The tooth-colored brackets are positioned on the tooth surface with a light-sensitive cement that is specially designed for braces. The retractor is removed and the arch wire is attached to the brackets.
Patients can expect an initial feeling of tightness as the arch wire adjusts the position of the teeth. This will subside and can be reduced using anti-inflammatory medications. Patients will need to return to Avenue Orthodontics for routine adjustments so that wires can be adjusted to achieve the desired results. During these adjustments, Dr. Abraham and Dr. Eleni will also replace the elastic ties used around the brackets. The length of treatment will vary based on your individual treatment needs.
